Calibration of safety factors for prestressed stayed steel columns

چکیده

Abstract Previous studies have investigated the behaviour of prestressed stayed steel columns with a view to developing design guidelines. As most modern standards move towards calibrated safety factors, there is need explore expectations these structures from probabilistic perspective. This has not been studied in literature till now, perhaps due lack clarity on underlying uncertainties, failure models and reliability levels. In this paper, relevant levels were highlight critical modes for such structures. A sensitivity analysis was performed random variables investigate their impact model output. The found through appropriate then compared target reliabilities calibrate partial factors be used range factor values depending conditions adopted calibration studies.

Stress relaxation properties of prestressed steel wires

In this study, stress relaxation phenomenon has been examined generally. Experiments were carried out on carbon steel wires with diameter 8 mm which are particularly used in prestressed concrete composites. Thermomechanically heat treatment was also carried out on this wire in order to relieve the residual stresses accumulated after the cold work. The heat treatment temperature and the stretch ...

Calibration of Load and Resistance Factors for Reinforced Concrete

Current approach for designing of reinforced concrete members is based on the load and resistance factor. However the load and resistance parameters are random variables, the constant values have been designated for them in the designing procedure. Assuming these factors as the constants, will be led to the unsafe and uneconomical designs. Safe designing of structures requires appropriate recog...

Calibration of partial safety factors for offshore foundation design

The foundation of an offshore installation is designed to resist the static and dynamic loads it is subjected to during its lifetime. The design codes specify combinations of load factor on the static load, load factor on the dynamic load, and resistance factor on the soil resistance, with reference to the ‘characteristic’ loads acting on the foundation and the ‘characteristic’ foundation capac...

a study on thermodynamic models for simulation of 1,3 butadiene purification columns

attempts have been made to study the thermodynamic behavior of 1,3 butadiene purification columns with the aim of retrofitting those columns to more energy efficient separation schemes. 1,3 butadiene is purified in two columns in series through being separated from methyl acetylene and 1,2 butadiene in the first and second column respectively. comparisons have been made among different therm...

ultimate axial load and moment interaction diagrams for prestressed hpc thin-walled short columns

in order to lighten the prestressed concrete solid members, nowadays, it is possible to make use of the advantage of hpc (fc'>60 mpa) as well as replacing the solid section with a psc thin-walled section for certain members such as circular and box columns. using the strength theory of aci, a numerical procedure along with a computer program was developed for the analysis of such sections ...
